NEO Youth Center
NEO strives to empower youth to make healthy lifestyle choices through music, art, skill development and recreation. NEO was created in 2008 by college students, Halli Ellis and Lynn Skrukrud to provide a welcoming home-style pop-up teen center after school that actively engages young people to make healthy choices through positive alternative activities all while addressing key root causes of substance use and abuse in fun and meaningful ways for young people. Now they host over 70 events throughout our community each year in over 25 locations along with running the physical location at Joerske Drive Grass Valley.
1) To create new events and opportunities in a safe environment that helps young people develop a sense of purpose.2) To use our positive influence to help youth build self-esteem and skills for success.
3) To empower youth to make the choice to live a healthy lifestyle.
4) To prevent youth isolation.
NEO provides opportunities for young people to reach their full potential and the skills and confidence needed to make healthy choices, successfully navigating adolescents. Neo addresses many issues such as positive socialization, nutrition, recreation, body image, education, healthy alternatives, positive lifestyle choices and community responsibility.
Local REALTORS and the Community see the value of this program as it not only gives teens a safe place to congregate, the activities offer each teen valuable life skills and job training, setting them up for a successful future as young adults.
NEO has provided invaluable assistance to non-profits at their fundraising events while also gaining valuable work experience to place on their resumes. Our Association sees what matters most for these teens…family, friends, community and a sense of home.
